On Saturday, July 13, 2026 some of our Heartland Pewaukee staff and friends volunteered at the Monarch Flyway planting event at Lakeshore State Park in Milwaukee!
Situated on the bank of Lake Michigan, Lakeshore State Park is a critical habitat for monarch butterflies. This planting, as a collaboration of many different local groups, and brought the public together bringing awareness to the plight of important pollinator species.
Native species planted, and grown by Johnson's Nursery, included showy blazing star, hyssop, showy goldenrod, pasture thistle, and most importantly, common milkweed! 2,000 plants in total were placed together by a group of over 300 volunteers.
It was a beautiful day to come together and share our passion and love for the natural world.
